As a student of history, I think I sometimes fall into this category...not the ancients, really, but the past for sure. I caught myself the other day reading a novel that takes place during the Jacobite rebellion of '45 (as in 1745), listening to old jazz from the 20's, and watching 1940's House on DVD. This is probably most why the OSX support class is good for me. Yanks me into things that are cutting edge and in the present (instead of cutting edge in the early 20th century like the modern art I love so much).

Chicago, Chicago, that tottling town...

Clair and I are here taking a Mac OSX support class...learning all about the new v.10.4, and mostly using it as an excuse to hang out in a city we'd never been to. My college roommate (hi Amanda!) lived here one summer, and has dreams of going to grad school at Northwestern, and I can completely envision her living here...even the weather will be a breeze after those winters in the eastern Czech Republic.

We made it to the Chicago Institue tonight after class (hooray for free admission during the last hour!), and may need to go back on Friday to complete my modern art fix. Add to that a yummy thai dinner (mmm...panaeng curry) and a walk back by the river. Chicago is such an interesting mix of architecture styles all jumbled together; hard to believe that most of it has been built in the past 125 years.

Jill brought me the most beautiful quart of the ripest strawberries this morning, and I've been making myself sick off of them. They're lovely; the same color of red all the way through, and sweet and tangy at the same time. I was afraid I'd missed the peak of the NC crop this year, but it looks like we're smack in the middle of it. Yum!

I'm feeling a little under the weather today, though I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting sick or if I just stayed up too late trying to finish the book I was reading and then slept fitfully to boot. Which is the cause and which is the effect? Anyhow, I had to work today (monday is usually my day off), so luckily there isn't too much that must be done and it's been quiet. I'm drinking green tea like it's oxygen, and am planning on having tomorrow off instead, so now I'm just debating whether or not I'll feel like going to yoga at 6:30 or not.

Usually, I get sick about once a year and that's it. Last year, I managed a lingering cold/cough-y thing in September, and I'm hoping not to waste this year's illness on a pretty spring month like May.

Well, I finally planted the plants that we got this weekend, and now things are starting to look springy. Gerberas and liriope and some grassy spikes as well as a butterfly bush in the front, as well as some potted zinnias, and of course my ever-growing collection of herbs. It's so nice to have some bright growing things at last. And as soon as this solar panel project is complete (ie, when the electrician figures out how to hook it all up), I can get some veggies into the ground.
