Since I was at the Saturn dealer having routine maintenance done this morning, I got to be in front of a tv to see the launch of Discovery go off without a hitch. All the North Carolinians with me were glued to the screen as well. It made me kind of miss watching the launches over the roof of the house across the street. Night launches were particularly spectacular, but really any time you can see the shuttle shooting up through the atmosphere with your naked eye is cool. We could always watch the actual countdown and launch on tv, and then have enough time to get outside and (so long as it wasn't really cloudy) see it come into view and gradually disappear into the sky. Made it very exciting as a kid...heck, even now.

I've always had a thing for piano players...harry, jamie, duke, franz lizst, rowlf. So of course I'm psyched about the Odd Men Out tour coming up. Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright co-headlining. It's like my generation's Billy Joel and Elton John. So the Jess is coming up again (gotta take advantage of her current job-less status while she can) and we're going to drive up to VA for it at the beginning of August. Anyone who wants a ride up, the car's leaving at 10 am sharp!

I'm soaking up a lot during my short little vacation week: lots of sun today at the beach (with only a tiny bit of burn), time with the pup (who is THE cutest thing going)...oh and family too, and the excitement over silly things like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (which we saw last night and was Wonderful! I heart Tim Burton!) and the new Harry Potter book (which I've only just begun) and the tiny little school supplies at Target. I've got to say that I'm smitten with my tiny mechanical pencils...

Well, Lindsey and Jason's Wedding yesterday was beautiful. Rainy, but then that's good luck, isn't it? (or at least they started telling people it was good luck to make them feel better about it raining on their wedding day). I think I could go on and on about the groom's cake (yes, those were chocolate chips), but I guess I should mention how well the bride's cake was cut and served, as that was the Jessie's official honor. Very concisely sliced, Jess. Well done.
