When did it get to be September 29? Argh...

I love that everyone's been reminding me that today is national Talk Like A Pirate Day. As if I would forget!

I had a great visit from my friend and college roommate, Amanda the past few days. Her family's been through a particularly hard last month (last year, really) and so I'm doubly glad that she was able to make it up here for even a few short days. And it was a good excuse to make it over to Joel's (btw, the Red Snapper Nirvana lives up to all the hype...oh yes) and shop for shoes. And we spent last night singing karaoke with our friend John (who I just found out was in town) at the Brick House. I forgot how much fun that can be...especially on a Tuesday night when the bar is nearly empty and we can just goof around...and relieve the bar staff from yet another Bon Jovi song. (Honestly, buddy, after three of their songs we get that you're a fan...no need to perform their entire ouvre in one night. Even if it is your friend Milk Dud's birthday.)

I seem to be churning out ads, flyers, brochures and signs like a madwoman these days. Perhaps a sign I should just suck it up and be a graphic artist? Right now I'm finishing up a painted wood sign for the gallery's booth at the art show tomorrow and the Great Grapes Festival in Charlotte next month. And I'm finding out that I need a few new paintbrushes...the cat's tongue one just isn't cutting it for detail work. But the sign's been very relaxing - I forget how trance-like it can be to just fill in lettering. All of a sudden, two hours are past. (Of course the last thing I need right now is something that makes time go by faster!)

I've made an executive decision. I will no longer be experiencing the month of August. The past three years, August has bought very difficult and heartbraking events, and I'll just be skipping it next year, thank you very much. The Jessie and the Mags, and anyone else with an August birthday, are welcome and encouraged to pick new birthdays or celebrate whenever they please. This is your fair warning.
