Whole Wheat Raisin Bread

Makes 1 loaf


  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1-1/2 Tbsp sugar
  • 3 Tbsp molasses
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 2 cups Unbleached All-Purpose Flour or Bread Flour
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 3 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup golden raisins


  1. In small bowl or measuring cup, stir together sugar, molasses & water. Stir in packet of yeast and let proof for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flours and salt. Stir in yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until dough forms.
  3. Turn dough out onto floured board and knead well (8-10 minutes), adding flour if needed.
  4. Turn dough in oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and place in warm spot to rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down dough and knead for another 5 inutes. Form into loaf and place in 9x5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 40 minutes.
